Note
The 12 volt electric tyre pump draws 10amps and has a limited operation time (limited operation times and then a cooling period. This is standard for good performing 12 volt pumps that are small in size). The AMP's draw means that the pump must be connected to the battery direct. Alligator clips are supplied. The 1400GTR has a difficult to get at battery, so a future "Farkle" will address this need for direct battery power and also provide the ability to jump start my bike or another.
We all carry stuff on our motorcycles. Here I have a look at my essential/always with the bike items.
I have placed most items in a waterproof easily carried/stored and opened piece of plastic kitchenware obtained, in this case, from Woollies.
In the waterproof case are -
- 1 x First Aid kit - small. I keep my First Aid qualifications up to date (red bag)
- 1 x electric (12 volt) tyre pump (draws 10amps when operating).
- 1 x Tyre repair kit - plugs, CO2 cylinders (at least 4) etc. No tyre levers.
- selection of food bars/snacks in sealed bags
- 2 x Spare headlight globes
- a number of ear plug packs from EAR (disposable)
- MicroFibre cloth
- tube hand cleaner - not shown (Balaclava pack will be replaced by this)
I also carry a 1 litre water bottle in a carry bag with shoulder strap (I also carry a litre of water in my jacket). Attached to this pack is a Multi Tool in a pouch with a LED torch. The Multi Tool attachments fit the smaller screws and fittings on the GTR. The Multi Tool also includes a knife and bottle opener and is a good quality one. The motorcycle tool kit is also carried. The water bottle carrier also contains a small bottle of glass/plastic cleaner and another Micro fibre cloth, in a separate compartment.
The essential role of Duct Tape is carried. Stored in the centre of the role is a LED head torch (the one shown is a cheapy from Woollies). This allows both hands to be free, when light is required. I also carry a E Flare (picture has link). Seen at truck stops and available online. The EF 300 model seems the right size for motorcycle carry/jacket pocket/glovebox. Most jackets have reflective panels or edging. Some of us elect to wear a high visibility vest. The E-Flar offers additional distance warning and compliments items such as, HiVis vests and clothing in emergencies/breakdowns/assistance, roadside activities.
You may wish to include a sealed note, in a waterproof bag. with your personal particulars (include a head and shoulders picture for ID), any medical conditions and other relevant info. Mark the envelope and bag "In Case of Emergency". You may already carry a Emergency Tag.
When the top box is packed there is no room for a helmet. (The top box would only take one in any case). Not a great deal of weight and all readily to hand. There is still room for spare gloves, jumpers, small bags etc. Its all neat, tidy and well protected, during travel.
I'm carrying! Are you?
